As long as this fleshly nature of ours remains alive, we’re not free to marry another man.
But the good news is that when Jesus died on the cross, our fleshly nature was put to death in Him. That’s, He said that in the sixth chapter of Romans,
“Our old man was crucified with him,”
Jesus. So now, the flesh having been put to death, executed, Paul says, we’re free to marry somebody else.
Whom should we marry? The one who was raised from the dead. So we’re married now, by the Holy Spirit, we’re united to the resurrected Christ. We’re not married to the flesh, we’re not under the law. When the law put us to death, that’s the last it could do to us. Death has released us from the law. We’re free now for a different kind of union, a union through the Spirit with the resurrected Christ.
