Ephesians chapter 5, For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery [or this mystery is great] but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless, let everyone of you in particular so love his wife even as himself, and the wife see that she reverence her husband. So marriage is a great mystery. And one of the most important teachers of it is that it depicts the relationship of Christ to the church. And my conviction now is this, that if we do not appreciate the nature of marriage we cannot fully understand our relationship to Christ. The two are intertwined.
