Laos

Laos, a landlocked country bordered by Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, China, and Cambodia, faces significant challenges, including poverty, economic instability, and low worker skills. The Laos civil war (1953-1975) caused massive internal displacement, and government resettlement programs further exacerbated poverty and food insecurity among ethnic minority groups.

Although Laos is a communist state, nearly 65% of the population practice Buddhism, with Christians making up just 1.7%. Religious freedom is restricted, with churches often under surveillance. Laotian believers face physical attacks and expulsion from their families for following Christ. The need for spiritual nourishment is great, as most house churches lack trained pastors, and Bible teaching materials are often smuggled in due to printing risks.
