Running to Win

Let me give you some words of Paul which have impressed me deeply. First Corinthians chapter 9, just the last few verses beginning at verse 24. “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.” And Paul often uses the illustration of athletes because they are an example of self-control. In order to win a gold medal a young man or a young woman will do all sort of very torturous things. Why? Because they have a vision, they have a goal, they’re aiming for something. Paul says, “Run life’s race like that. Be determined to be a winner.”
